JYP Entertainment delivered its third quarter results recently, and revealed concrete details about the length of its
artists’ contracts.
a listed company, and JYP , unlisted, signed a merger contrac t, meaning JYP
artists are now under the remaining entity, JYP Entertainment.
Previously, JYP Entertainment included
artists such as 2PM , 2AM and Wonder Girls, while JYP’s stable included Park Jin Young , miss A , Sunmi, Baek Ah Yeon, Park Ji Min , Baek Ye Rin and Lee Jung Jin .
Following the complete absorption of JYP in October, the report reveals not just the
company’s recent performance, but also
JYP artists’ contract details.
All four members of girl group miss A
(also managed by AQ Entertainment ) have
the same contract expiry date, March 31
2017, but different start dates. Min joined
the company earliest, so her contract
started on December 12, 2008; Suzy’s
contract began on April 1, 2010, while Fei
and Jia signed theirs on December 30,
2010. miss A is currently actively
promoting their new song, “Hush ,” which
is currently charting at number one on
music programs.
Sunmi, originally a member of Wonder
Girls, debuted with a solo song this
summer and has a contract with JYP untill
April 24, 2016. Her contract began on
December 22, 2006.
Park Ji Min, SBS “K-Pop Star” Season 1
winner and one half of 15& , has a
contract effective May 10, 2012, expiring
on May 9, 2019. 15&’s other member,
Baek Ye Rin, has a similar seven-year
contract, but hers starts on September 14,
2012, expiring on September 13, 2019.
“K-Pop Star” Season 1’s third place
winner, Baek Ah Yeon, signed hers on
August 31, 2012, and it ends on August
30, 2019.
In the case of actor Lee Jung Jin, his is a
three-year contract from December 2012 to December 2015.
While some may choose to move on, loyalty to the company might mean an artist remains on even after their contract
expires.
In its report, JYP Entertainment also revealed that it currently has a total of 35 trainees, 15 girls and 20 boys. The report however, did not include contract details of other JYP Entertainment such as 2PM (all ending in 2018), 2AM (ending in 2015) or Wonder Girls (who have different contracts, Sunye and Sohee have contracts that end in December this year). The contract details listed below were found from the merger report in September.
